From Shop Drawing to Construction Site: Bringing Architectural Drawings to Life for Architecture
Students
School of Architecture a field trip for students in Architectural Technologies 2 course to visit the construction site at Sukhumvit 15, managed by Syntec Construction PCL. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between architectural shop drawings and actual construction site implementation, fostering understanding among architects, designers, engineers, and contractors. Students learned about material seams between structural, architectural, and interior architectural elements, while gaining practical experience in reading architectural and engineering drawings accurately.

The students were honored to have Mr. Apichart Petchboot (Project Manager) and five engineering team members provide insights and guide them through the NIST INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL construction project. This project features three 7-story buildings with one basement level, 7 link bridges, spanning 25,000 square meters. Students learned about material selection for different spaces, such as classroom pin boards, partition walls, and various imported materials that differ from local options. The engineering team, including specialists in structural, electrical, air conditioning, and sanitation systems, shared their expertise, helping students develop better decision-making skills in cross-departmental coordination.

This on-site experience provided an excellent opportunity to understand the transition from architectural and interior design plans to engineering and construction implementation. The project, being a school, required special attention to safety considerations for children, teachers, and parents. Students observed various technical aspects, including RC flat slab construction, curtain wall installation, VRV-Daikin air conditioning systems, acoustic ceiling systems, and track lighting. This valuable learning experience was made possible through collaboration with Syntec's engineering team, who have been generously sharing their construction technology knowledge with Bangkok University students for over 10 years.
