From Dedication to Success:
BU-ITI Student Achieves 2 International Cybersecurity Certifications

A crucial steps to help validate have both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for real work

Congratulations to Mr. Manopakorn  Kooharuangrong (Domon),
a 4th-year student majoring in  Computer Science - Data Science and Cybersecurity, School of Information Technology and Innovation, on successfully obtaining 2 international Cybersecurity certifications:

  • Certified CompTIA Security+ - An international standard certification that validates foundational knowledge in cybersecurity
  • Certified Red Team Analyst (CRTA) from CyberWarfare Labs - A practical examination requiring candidates to demonstrate penetration testing skills to accurately identify vulnerabilities and assess system security

Success Story: Finding Your True Passion

Knowledge Review Through Certification Exams

"Taking certification exams has been my intention from the beginning because I wanted to develop myself to be ready for work in Cybersecurity and use it as evidence to validate the knowledge I've learned throughout 4 years. Combined with experience accumulated from participating in various activities and competitions such as Capture The Flag, Hackathons, or skill enhancement training for areas I lacked and wanted to advance, both within and outside the university. This was coupled with self-directed research to develop comprehensive and well-rounded knowledge and skills ready for work."

Importance of Certification Exams

"In the Cybersecurity field, certifications are crucial steps because they help validate that we have both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for real work. They also reflect our commitment to continuous self-development, demonstrate work readiness, and build confidence for organizations to trust that we have sufficient potential for international-level work."

Tips from a Senior Student

"The most important thing is foundational knowledge from classroom learning, especially when explaining or sharing what we've learned with friends, because it helps us understand the content even better. But at the same time, we must supplement this with self-directed research. Another thing I recommend is gaining additional experience through various activities or competitions. For those interested in Cybersecurity, I suggest trying Capture The Flag competitions, Hackathons, or joining various workshops that help strengthen skills we still lack, because these real-world scenarios expose us to diverse challenges and train analytical thinking in different situations. Participation doesn't always have to aim for prizes, but should be used as opportunities for learning and self-development. Another indispensable skill is English even though I'm not particularly good at English, practicing reading textbooks and participating in activities with international friends has helped me understand English better.

Finally, regarding certification exams, I believe we can take them at any time - it's never too late. But the question we should ask ourselves is: Are we ready? And what are we taking the exam for? Because these answers will be the true reasons and driving force for creating new opportunities and following the goals we've set."

Certified CompTIA Security+

This international certification measures foundational cybersecurity knowledge, covering network protection, data security, and risk management. The exam is entirely in English, with certification valid for 3 years and requiring renewal upon expiration. The ideal time to take this exam is Year 4, Semester 1, as results can be immediately applied for both internships and job applications, and it's when accumulated knowledge from 4 years can be fully utilized.

Certified Red Team Analyst (CRTA)

This practical examination takes 6 hours, requiring candidates to demonstrate penetration testing skills. Starting from vulnerability discovery, analyzing problem causes, and selecting appropriate methods to actually penetrate systems. The goal is to prove the ability to access or exploit vulnerabilities in simulated scenarios, testing deep skills and comprehensive problem-solving capabilities.
