Faculty of Law Promotes Legal Role in Entertainment Industry, Strives to Become Knowledge Hub through “BU Entertainment Law Forum 1: Behind the Scenes”
The entertainment industry has become one of the key drivers of the creative economy and the export of Thai culture to the world stage, particularly in the film industry where Thailand plays a significant role as a producer, exporter, and participant in all processes of filmmaking. Law has therefore become a crucial component affecting the stability and sustainability of the industry at both national and international levels. Bangkok University School of Law recognizes the importance of laws related to the entertainment industry in various dimensions, organizing the academic seminar "BU Entertainment Law Forum 1: Behind the Scenes" to showcase the Faculty's potential as a leader in laws related to the entertainment industry and business, and to promote the role of law in the creative industry world, as well as the proper legal use of digital technology, especially in the context of rapid and increasingly complex industry changes.
Dr.Parada Kaewparadai, Dean, School of Law and Director of LL.M. Program, spoke about the importance of this project: "When stakeholders prioritize legal fairness in the entertainment industry, it will become an important driving force in promoting this industry as soft power with the potential for further national development."
This forum serves as a platform for exchanging experiences between academics, legal professionals, and practitioners in the film industry.
Mom Rajawongse Chalermchatri Yukol - Chairman of the Subcommittee for Driving the Film, Documentary, and Animation Industry, said: "Law is not just meant to be viewed on paper, but to view the world around us in many aspects. The amendment and promotion of laws in this industry has existed throughout all eras. Therefore, the social and organizational context must be ready to prioritize, allocate resources, and see every matter as important to every unit in order to achieve amendments and changes that everyone can benefit from - jobs, changes, and faster laws that mutually promote and support each other."
Mr. Thiti Srinual - Thai film director of "Sap E-Roe," said: "I specialize in film as an ordinary person who doesn't have legal knowledge about what's right and wrong, especially regarding film law. Sometimes what I intended to present in a certain way to reflect a character's perspective, but when encountering certain boundaries, might not be achievable. However, having this forum allows new generation people like me to better understand complex specialized legal matters, knowing that there's a platform to update knowledge from a creator's perspective as a director."
Dr. Kunchanita Kunchon Na Ayutthaya - Partner, Artthakij & Partners Co., Ltd., said: "Legal matters are processes that require many agencies because everything is interconnected. We have lawyers, actors, creators, government agencies, and universities. Today we have truly created new standards in this industry. There must be systematic amendments to the law itself, and the law must support the social context. When the social context changes, the law must change accordingly, with everyone's voices reflected as in today's forum."
The forum also featured Professor Panu Aree - Special Lecturer, Director of Film Copyright Management, Independent Writer and Film Director; Associate Professor Woralak Klaasukhon - Screenwriter; Ms. Chutima Sodapack (Am) - 5th Runner-up Miss Grand Thailand; Mr. Pachej Jarumon - Head of Intellectual Property Advisory Center, Department of Intellectual Property; Dr. Peerapat Foythong - Managing Partner, Artthakij & Partners Co., Ltd.; Professor Wiwat Sanpakun - Faculty member of the Faculty of Law, Bangkok University and Executive of BKK Inter Law Co., Ltd.; Mr. Tianchai Pinwised - Legal Expert, Former Thailand Country Director of the Motion Picture Association of America; and Ms. Thatchaporn Netpraserdkul - Partner, WE Intellectual Property Co., Ltd., who participated in the discussion to open new perspectives and truly connect the world of law with the world of creativity.
Beyond being an academic platform, this seminar reflects the vision of Bangkok University Faculty of Law in developing knowledge that aligns with the times, while driving the Faculty to become a center of entertainment law knowledge that can create networks of cooperation with leading experts in both the entertainment industry and academic sectors for sustainable growth and development.
